What a Psychometric Test Can (and Can't) Tell You
It is a mirror, not a map. How to use psychometrics for clarity without handing over the decision.
A mirror, not a map
A psychometric test is a structured way to see your own patterns: how you take in information, where your interests cluster, how you prefer to work. Used well, it gives you vocabulary and confidence. Used badly, it becomes a label you hide behind.
Good uses
- Starting a conversation about stream or career direction.
- Spotting strengths you undersell.
- Narrowing a huge field of options into a few to explore.
Bad uses
Treating the result as a verdict, or as a reason to stop exploring. The test informs the decision. It does not make it for you.
